Two Shoes Tuesday --- Beginning or Window

Josie is back with Two Shoes Tuesday.... Yippeeee!!!

this is the deal: There are two word prompts to choose from... you can use whichever one inspires you. You are not required to include them both. You do not have to include the prompt word in your post, but please use it as your theme. You are welcome to write a post for each prompt word, if you like. Posts unrelated to either word prompt will be deleted from the Mr. Linky list.

Your contribution must be in the form of  a poem, essay, or short story (fiction or non-fiction), and it must be a new piece - not something drawn from your other writings or archives.

This weeks prompt(s) are Beginning or Window...

When I was twenty six years old I got into a terrible car accident. I has hit head on by a drunk driver. I had a black eye and ended up taking weeks off of work. I just sat on the couch and stared out the window...but more importantly than that I came to know the man I had married several months earlier. He was home everyday (doing drugs) and he would just sleep on the couch... Oh My! What had I married?

When I sought help and asked the only person I trusted to come and get me out of that situation, the response was: "Marriage is hard. You need to work it out." And that was the beginning of the end of my self esteem, self confidence, ethical behaviors and so much more.

Three children later I decided it was time for a beginning of another kind. I have no idea where the strength came from (and in hindsight it is scarier than hell).... but my life began to look out of a different window.

Now.... twenty years I look out my window and I see a beautiful flower garden, a dog that I adore, and many many memories of good times. My self esteem has returned as well as my confidence.... although I still don't socialize and keep pretty much to myself and my children. However, I will be beginning a new chapter within the next year as I sell the home I have lived in for four years and move closer to children and grandchildren. After all who doesn't want to look out of their window and see themselves surrounded by family?
